The Passing of Rev. Jerry Falwell

I was saddened to hear of the passing of one of Christian community's most influential man, Jerry Falwell. Pastor Falwell was 73. Throughout his life as an ambassador of Christ to the American political arena, Pastor Falwell has been criticized for his strong Christian beliefs by pro-gay and lesbian organizations and ACLU. It was only after reading the biography of this extraordinary man that I learned a lot about some notable scandals he was involved in like calling Teletubbies character as agent of homosexual agenda, legal Supreme Court fight against Hustler magazine, and calling September 11, 2001 terrorist attack as the result of America's immoral behaviour. For the most part, Jerry Falwell was right about many things-it was his vigorous Baptist preaching that got him in trouble with his critics. Rev. Falwell's legacy will be marked with the establishment of Liberty University which he founded in 1971. Today, thousands of students from 80 countries and all 50 United States attend that school. Falwell also established Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia which became popular for its weekly Internet podcast and live broadband downloads of their Sunday services. In fact, the last sermon that Pastor Falwell preached was on May 13 entitled "Becoming a Highly Honored Mother" during the Mother's Day Sunday service. He died just two day later on May 15. Pastor Falwell will surely be missed by many around the world and across our country. Already, other well-known evangelists and Bible teachers like Billy Graham, Charles Stanley, David Jeremiah, and Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church, and Dr. James Dobson all have paid tributes with eulogies about their friend on their websites. God has truly blessed our nation with this wonderful man and he will be sorely missed. God bless his family and his continues ministry.
